What age should children start learning guitar?

Children can start learning to play classical guitar at around 6 years of age.

Do I need my own guitar?

Yes, each student will need their own guitar to bring to lessons and practice at home.

Can adults learn classical guitar?

Yes, adults can learn classical guitar. It is never too late to learn.

How long are lessons?

Lessons range from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your skill level.

How often should I practice?

The following practice times are intended as a general guide and may vary depending on the student’s age, experience, and skill level. Students aged 6 and above should begin with short, consistent practice sessions of around 15 minutes each day. As students progress, practice time should gradually increase. Students aged 10 and above typically benefit from 30 minutes of practice, 3 times per week, while students aged 13 and above should aim for 45 minutes, 4 times per week. Students preparing for Grade 6 AMEB and above are generally encouraged to practice for 1 hour, 4–5 times per week.
 

Do you teach beginners?

Yes, I teach students of all skill levels.

Do you prepare students for AMEB exams?

Yes, I prepare students through all AMEB grade exams, both comprehensive and repertoire.

What size guitar do I need?

Guitars come in different sizes depending on the student’s height and age. When purchasing a guitar, staff at the music store can help you choose the most suitable size. The most common sizes are 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full size.
